BREANNE LOUCKS WINS WELSH TITLE FOR FIRST TIME

Canadian-born GB&I Curtis Cup player Breanne Loucks from Wrexham won the Welsh women's closed amateur championship for the first time at Royal St David's Golf Club, Harlech today.
Breanne, the No 1 qualifier, beat the 2002 and 2003 Welsh girls champion Lucy Gould (Bargoed) by 3 and 2 in the morning semi-finals in which Tara Davies (Holyhead), the 2004 and 2006 Welsh girls title-winner, beat Sahra Hassan (Vale of Glamorgan), the 2005 Welsh girls champion, by one hole.
In the 18-hole final, Breanne won by one hole.
There was a surprise in the final of the Welsh senior women's match-play championship.
Vicki Thomas, many times a Curtis Cup player and Welsh women's champion just as often, failed in her bid to complete a hat-trick of titles at the over-50s level. Winner of the championship in 2005 and 2006, Vicki lost at the 19th to Ann Lewis, who made the most of her home-course knowledge.
