ALISON WINS STIRLING & CLACKMANNAN
TITLE FOR FIFTH TIME SINCE 1990
Former Curtis Cup player and past Scottish champion Alison Davidson, now 39, won the Stirling & Clackmannan women’s county golf championship for a fifth time over a 17-year span at Alloa Golf Club this evening.
Mrs Davidson, a Stirling Golf Club member, never lost a hole in beating first-time finalist Margaret Tough (Falkirk) by 5 and 4 with level par figures.
Margaret put up stout resistance to halve the first five holes before her opponent went one up at the sixth, and two up at the ninth.
Mrs Davidson then wrapped up the title by winning the 11th, 12th and 14th holes.
This was Alison’s seventh county final. She had previously won the title in 1990, 1991, 1992 and 2005. She was beaten in the finals of 2002 and 2003.
A mother of two, Mrs Davidson averages, if she is lucky, one round of golf a week nowadays.
Result:
Final – A Davidson (Stirling) bt M Tough (Falkirk) 5 and 4.
