DOUBLE BOGEYS KNOCK BACK CALLUM
AT SEA ISLAND, GEORGIA

Tulliallan Golf Club member Callum Macaulay, a final-year student at the University of Mississippi, was lying in joint 15th position in a quality field of 60 players for the South-east Conference Championship men’s college tournament at Sea Island Golf Club, Georgia.
Callum, pictured right, from Kincardine had a five-over-par score of 75 over the 6,991yd, par-70 Seaside course. The West of Scotland Open champion had birdies at the fourth, 13th and 16th but he also had two disastrous double bogeys – a 7 at the par-5 seventh and a 6 at the par-4 14th. He also dropped single shots at the second, eighth, ninth and 10th in halves of 39 and and 36.
Macaulay was six strokes behind the three-shot leader, Mississippi team-mate Will Roebuck with a 69.
Chris Paisley (Tennessee) from Newcastle had a 76 to be in joint 22nd player.
American Chris Kirk (Tennessee), one of the top-ranked players on the US college circuit and a member of the American team for the forthcoming Palmer Cup students’ match against Europe, was joint 46th in a field of 60 players. He struggled for a 10-over-par 80 which included two double bogeys.
The efforts of Macaulay and Roebuck helped Mississippi to jump into a three-shot lead with a first-round tally of 295 in the team event. Alabama (298) were lying second ahead of joint third Louisiana State and Tennessee (301) in a field of 12 teams.
