VICKI THOMAS LEADS IN IRELAND

VICKI LEADS SENIOR IRISH WOMEN'S OPEN

Former Curtis Cup player Vicki Thomas from Wales was in the lead after day one of the Senior Irish Ladies Open Championships in Woodbrook Golf Club, with a score of 77.
Susan Pickles (England) was in second place with 78, closely followed by Mary Madden (Ballinasloe), Mary McKenna (Donabate), Alison Murdoch (Canada), Sheena O'Brien Kenney (Grange) all with 79.
Alison Murdoch has once again travelled from Canada to defend the title.
Last year, Murdoch pipped Marlyn Henderson by one stroke after firing a 75 in her opening round to lead overnight.
This year’s tournament is as competitive as ever with the majority of the field availing of the extra practice in advance of the following week’s Senior British Open at Dumfries & County.
The 108 strong field sees 40 overseas visitors play two 18 hole stroke-play rounds over two consecutive days.
Following the Championship, the Irish Seniors Team to play at the Seniors Home Internationals at Hamilton Golf Club from Ocotber 3 to 5 will be announced.
