US FUTURES TOUR

VIKKI SURVIVES CRISIS TO BEAT THE CUT

Musselburgh exile Vikki Laing survived a mid-round crisis to qualify for the third and final round in the last United States Futures Tour event of the season.
Vikki shot rounds of 72 and 74 over the par-71 course at Capital Hills at Albany Golf Club, New York State for a four-over-par tally of 146. A total of 71 players with scores of 151 or over beat the cut.
Miss Laing, starting at the 10th, was well ahead of the game when she birdied the 12th, 15th and 16th. Then she dropped eight shots over the next five holes – a triple bogey 7 at the 17th, a bogey at the first, a double bogey 6 at the second and further shots dropped at the third and sixth.
But the Scot steadied up in time to get a late birdie and finish the day tied for 42nd place.
Samantha Head from Bedford qualified in joint 36th place on 145 (74-71) and Brenda McLarnon from Belfast made it with a shot to spare on 150 with rounds of 74 and 76.
Ji Min Jeongh from Korea leads by one shot with scores of 66 and 68.
