RUTH TAMES MACHRIHANISH AND
WINS SCOTTISH SENIORS TITLE

Lothianburn’s Ruth Brown was the surprise first-time winner of the Scottish senior women’s amateur stroke-play championship at Machrihanish Golf Club today.
Ruth, a five-handicapper, was several shots off the first-round pace with an 81 but she put together an excellent two-over-par 74 – easily the best round of the championship, for a 36-hole total of 155.
That won her the title by one shot from Lorna Bennett (Ladybank) who had a 79 for 156.
Cruden Bay’s Lynne Terry had a 76 – second only Ruth Brown’s score – to claim third place on 157.
Defending champion Pamela Williamson (Baberton) slumped to an 86 for 164 and seventh place.
She still has a chance to retain the Scottish senior women’s match-play title at the same venue over the next two days. The leading 16 players in the stroke-play qualified for the match-play.
