FIONA DE VRIES WINS SCOTTISH SENIOR
WOMEN’S MATCH-PLAY TITLE

St Andrews hotelier Fiona De Vries (St Rule) won the Scottish senior women’s amateur match-play championship at Machrihanish Golf club today.
In the 18-hole, final Fiona, who had qualified in fifth place from the stroke-play section of the four-day programme, beat Helen Faulds (Douglas Park) by 4 and 3.
In the morning semi-finals, Mrs Faulds had beaten the defending champion Pamela Williamson (Baberton) by one hole.
All three seeds in the match-play stages, Ruth Brown, winner of the stroke-play championship on Friday, Lorna Bennett (Ladybank) and Lynne Terry (Cruden Bay), were knocked out in the first round in very wet conditions on Saturday morning.
