KARYN QUITS AS SLGA COACH

KARYN DALLAS RESIGNS AS SCOTTISH
LADIES GOLFING ASSOCIATION COACH

Scottish Ladies Golfing Association national coach Karyn Dallas has resigned after five years in the part-time post.
Karyn, who is the Kirriemuir Golf Club professional, tendered her resignation to the SLGA on August 16 but the news was not released until after last week’s women’s home international matches at Frilford Heath.
Scotland were beaten by Wales, England and Ireland and finished bottom of the table, only a few weeks after Scotland won the girls’ home internationals title at Portstewart, Northern Ireland.
“I’ve had five happy years as national girls’ and women’s coach and I feel very honoured to have had the post. I feel I have grown as a coach, working with the SLGA and some very good players,” said Karyn.
“There is a lot of talent coming through at Under-18 girls’ level in Scotland as the recent victory in the girls’ home internationals proved. I still had another year on my contract but I feel that now is the right time for me to go.
“I have a very successful programme for juniors at Kirriemuir Golf Club and our boys and girls have done very well in the Angus junior orders of merit.
A note on the SLGA website reads:
“It was with regret that the Scottish Ladies' Golfing Association, on 16th August 2006, received the resignation of Karyn Dallas, the National Coach. The Association appreciates the dedication and commitment which Karyn has shown throughout the past five years.”
Mrs Dallas, who is 41, took over the SLGA coaching post from Jane Connachan in September 2001. She turned professional in 1989 and played full-time on the Ladies European Tour until 1992 when she became an assistant pro and teaching co-ordinator on the staff of Gleneagles Hotel.
In 1998 she joined the select band of women in Britain and Ireland who have been appointed head professional by a golf club. Kirriemuir Golf Club gave Karyn wide-ranging responsibilities, including the marketing and booking of golf society outings and she has repaid their confidence in full.
