EUROPEAN WOMEN'S AMATEUR CHSHIP

GEMMA SQUEAKS INTO LAST-DAY QUALIFIERS
WITH KRYSTLE AS FOUR SCOTS MISS THE CUT

Gemma Webster survived two double-bogey 7s on her card to beat the third-round cut with nothing to spare in the European women’s individual amateur golf championship over the Hamburg Falkenstein course in Germany today.
Ohio State University student Gemma, also a member of Hilton Park Golf Club,. Had a 7 at the second and a 7 at the 17th in a seven-over-par 78 which put her on 228 – and that turned out to be the qualifying limit for the 70 players who go forward to Saturday’s fourth and final round.
There was only other Scottish qualifier, Under-21 champion Krystle Caithness (St Regulus) who had a double-bogey at the third but birdies at the 14th and 16th in a 74 for 224 and a share of 38th place.
Heather MacRae (Dunblane New) 229, Jenna Wilson (Strathaven) 233, Kyle Walker (Buchanan Castle) 234 and Clare-Marie Carlton (Stirling University) also missed the cut which means that the Scots girls have done just as badly in this championship as the Scots men did in their European individual championship last week. Only two Scots made the cut in that event in Italy.
Spanish 17-year-old Belen Mozo, winner of the British girls and women’s open titles this summer, has the chance of a terrific treble victory. She had a 68 for 209 to be one shot behind leader Thea Hoffmesiter (Germany).
Curtis Cup player Breanne Loucks from Wrexham is sharing fourth place on 212 after a 69.
The only other GB&I player in the top 10 is Kerry Smith, the golf club chef at Waterlooville. She had a 72 to be joint ninth on 215.
Young Florentyna Parker, whose father is a club pro in Germany, is doing well in joint 12th place on 217.
