SOUTH DIVISION COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP

GALLOWAY MAKE WINNING START

 

Galloway made a winning start to the three-day South Division women’s inter-county team championship with a 6-3 win over Dumfries-shire at Portpatrick Golf Club today

Galloway edged the foursomes 2-1 but forged clear by taking the singles 4-2 even though Diane MacDonald (Dumfries-shire) beat Addi Shamash 4 and 2 in the top singles tie.

 

GALLOWAY 6, DUMFRIES-SHIRE 3

Foursomes: S McMurtrie & G Robson lost to D MacDonald & K Wells 1 hole; T Milligan, G Monteith bt F McGregor & T Lilly 8 and 6; A Shamash & J Brydson bt M Macgregor & L Kirkwood 4 and 2 (2-1).

Singles: Shamash lost to MacDonald 4 and 2, McMurtrie halved with Wells, Monteigh bt Lilly 6 and 5, C Meldrum bt M Macgregor 6 and 4, Milligan bt Kirkwood 5 and 4, P Magill halved with C Holden (4-2).

 

Defending champions opening their campaign in the three-cornered contest by playing Dumfries-shire on Sunday.
