SCOTS BOYS FOR McGREGOR TROPHY

ENGLISH  UNDER-16 STROKE-PLAY

Exciting young prospect Michael Stewart is among a group of Scottish golfers off to Sussex this week to compete in the McGregor Trophy tournament at Worthing Golf Club from Wednesday to Friday.

The 16-year-old from Troon Welbeck has impressed this year, winning two Junior Tour events to secure a place in the top three of the Scottish Junior Golf Ranking table.

Stewart will be joined at the McGregor Trophy by 2004 Scottish Boys U14 Champion Frazer Ogston (St Andrews). The 16 year old finished in the top five of the U16 Scottish Stroke Play last year, and will be looking for a repeat performance in the English equivalent this week.

The full list of Scottish boys to travel is:

Mark Bookless (Sandyhills)

Scott Fraser (Northern)

Sam McLaren (King James VI)

Frazer Ogston (St Andrews)
Kyle Smith (Kilmarnock (Barassie))

Tom Spencer (Inchmarlo)

Michael Stewart (Troon Welbeck)

England’s Adam Myers won the Championship last year at Radcliffe-on-Trent Golf Club with Scottish Boys Under 14 Champion Billy Downing (Truro) finishing as leading Scot in a tie for fourth, six shots behind the champion.

No Scottish player has won the championship in its 21-year history. Past winners of the event include Justin Rose (1995) and Graeme Storm (1994).

The tournament, which will be played this year at Worthing Golf Club, is a stroke play event. A field of 132 will play 72 holes over three days, with 18 holes being playing on each of the first two days. The leading 45 competitors and those tying for 45th place, will play a further two rounds to determine the champion.
