LONDON SENIORS MASTERS

CALI WINS PLAY-OFF AFTER LAST ROUND

SLUMP BY LEADER SAM TORRANCE

Italian Giuseppe Cali produced a nerveless display to defeat Delroy Cambridge of Jamaica at the fifth hole of a sudden-death play-off to scoop the Bendinat London Seniors Masters title at The London Golf Club today.

Cambridge held the upper hand for much of the shoot-out but was undone when he left his 17ft birdie putt on the edge of the cup and Cali holed from seven feet for a winning 3.

It was the Italian’s second European Seniors Tour title and came with a winner’s cheque of £22,500 (€32,709).

Cali had earlier produced the best round of the day, a five under par 67, to finish on six under par 210 for 54 holes, a total Cambridge matched thanks to a 15ft birdie putt at the last for a 71.

England’s Tony Allen closed with a round of 70 to finish in third place on five under par 211.

Sam Torrance, who had started the final round with a three stroke lead, endured a day to forget as he carded three double bogeys in a round of 77, which dropped him into a share of sixth place.
