JAFFREY CUP FINAL
GLEN TAYLOR WINS NE MATCH-PLAY TITLE
Reinstated amateur Glen Taylor, now a member at Meldrum House Golf Club, returned to the course where he once was club professional - Newmachar - to win the North-east District match-play championship for the Jaffrey Cup tonight.
Over the Hawkshill course, Taylor beat Lawrie Phillips (Cruden Bay) by two holes after being one up at the turn, then three up after 13 holes. Phillips came back at his man with winning birdies at the 16th and 17th but Taylor finished in good style by holing a 24ft birdie putt for a 3 at the last to clinch a victory that will have given him great pleasure.
