EUROPEAN GIRLS TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPE

SCOTS GIRLS BEATEN BY DANES

Scotland were narrowly beaten 3-2 by Denmark in the first round of the European girls’ team golf championship at Esbjerg Golf Club today

The best they can do now is to finish fifth in the eight-team top flight but they will still finish the week with a higher ranking than either England, Wales or Ireland, none of whom qualified for the championship flight.Carly Booth (Comrie) and Krystle Caithness (St Regulus) lost at the 20th in one of the two morning foursomes. Kelsey MacDonald (Nairn Dunbar) and Roseanne Niven (Crieff) won the other alternate-shot tie, which meant that everything depended on the three afternoon singles.

Denmark won two of them with Carly being beaten 2 and 1 and Krystle going down 4 and 3. Scotland’s only singles winner was Roseanne.

Top seeds Sweden were shocked 3-2 by eighth qualifiers France while Germany edged out Belgium 3-2 and Spain whacked Netherlands 4-1.
