EURO JUNIOR WOMEN

SCOTS LOSE TO ITALY IN NETHERLANDS

 

Scotland lost 3-2 to Italy in a second-flight tie of the European junior women’s team golf championship at Pan Golf Club in the Netherlands today.

Both countries had failed to make the top eight in the championship match-play flight. Scotland were 12th and Italy 13th in the standings after the two stroke-play qualifying rounds.

Michele Thomson from Ellon and Kylie Walker (Buchanan Castle) won their singles ties but the Dutch won the only foursome, beat Clare-Marie Carlton (Fereneze) and Laura Murray (Alford) by one hole and then shared the singles 2-2.

Gemma Webster (Hilton Park) lost 3 and 2 while Louise Fleming (The Roxburghe) lost by 1 hole.

No 1 qualifiers England beat Belgium 2-0 in the championship flight while Spain hammered Wales 7-0.

Foursome: C-M Carlton & L Murray lost to F Angioletti & G Paolillo 1 hole (0-1).

Singles: G Webster lost to C Brizzolari 3 and 2; M Thomson bt G Molinaro 6 and 4; L Fleming lost to C Venezia 1 hole; K Walker bt A Rossi 2 and 1 (2-2).
