GIFFORD PAIR WIN AT PEEBLES

 

Gifford Golf Club's George Milne and Maurice McEwan shot a better-ball net 63 to head the regional qualifiers at Peebles Golf Club for the Belhaven Best club captains' and secretaries' championship grand final over The Duke's Course, St Andrews on September 12.

George, who plays off 11, is the Gifford captain and six-handicap Maurice is the club secretary. Their inward half of 29 included eight net 3s.

They won by two shots from Braids United (Ron Hastings and Wilf Mitchell) and Ratho Park (Duncan Murdoch and Craig Innes). Ron (13) and Wilf (14), who had two net 2s after the turn,  received the second prize by virtue of a better inward half (31) than Duncan (17) and Craig (9).
