SCOTTISH SCHOOLS CHAMPIONSHIPS

LUNDIN LAD FAVOURITE FOR SCHOOBOYS’ TITLE

Scottish boys’ golf champion James White (Lundin) will attempt to add the Scottish schoolboys title to his collection over the Troon Darley and Lochgreen courses on Monday.

With Michael Main (Thornton), the boy James beat in the final, also in the field, Fife must have a good chance of winning the team title.

Other leading candidates include James Byrne (Banchory), the new North-east District youths champion, and Chris Robinson (Dumfries & Galloway).

Laura Murray (Alford) will be defending the girls’ title she won at St Andrews Bay last year. She faces stern opposition from competitors such as Kelsey MacDonald (Highland), Michele Thomson (North Aberdeenshire), Megan Briggs (Renfrewshire), Jane Turner (City of Edinburgh), Pamela Prestwell (South Lanarkshire) and Rachael Livingstone (East Lothian).

The leading competitors in both the boys' and girls' championships will earn automatic selection for the international match against England at Hillside Golf Club, Southport on September 18.

This is the final year of The Royal Bank of Scotland’s sponsorship of the Scottish schools championship.
