NORTH DIVISION COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
PERTH AND COUNTY WIN TITLE FOR
FIRST TIME IN 24 YEARS
Perth & Kinross will compete in the Scottish women’s county golf championship finals in September for the first time since 1982.
They booked their place alongside the three other area title-winners by winning the North Division women’s county team championship at Crieff Golf Club today.
Perth & Kinross did it in champion style by winning all three matches over the three-day tournament. They clinched the divisional title for the first time in 24 years – Crieff was also the venue in 1982 – by beating Aberdeenshire 6 ˝-2 ˝.
P & K made a clean sweep of the morning foursomes 3-0 to take most of the pressure off the singles. Needing only 2pt from the six afternoon ties to make sure of victory, they got them from Emma Ogilvy (Auchterarder) and Alexandra Bushby (Strathmore).
A win for Emma Napper (Craigie Hill) and half a point from Fiona Ramsay (Crieff) extended the winning margin.
“It’s fantastic to have won the divisional title after 24 years,” said vice-captain Dawn Butchart. “It was an awesome team effort and it’s rather nice that Perth & Kinross are champions in the year that Jessie Valentine (who was a Craigie Hill Golf Club member all her life) passed away.”
Northern Counties, bidding to win the area title for a fourth year in a row, finished runners-up by beating Angus 5-4.
