KIRAN MATHARU NOT FOR ST ANDREWS

NEW ENGLISH CHAMPION DROPS OUT

OF ST RULE TROPHY THIS WEEKEND

Kiran Matharu, 17-year-old winner of the English women’s amateur championship last week, has withdrawn from the field of 72 for the St Rule Trophy 54-hole tournament over the Old and the New Courses, St Andrews on Saturday and Sunday.

Kiran, a member of Cookridge Hall Golf Club, Yorkshire, is attending an English Ladies Golfing Association training week at Woodhall Spa for Under-21s.

“It’s a pity for us but we still have a good field and are delighted at the quality. We have three of the national champions – Martine Pow (Scotland), Stephanie Evans (Wales) and Tricia Mangan (Ireland) – playing as well as a number of Curtis Cup hopefuls,” said Alison White of the organising committee.
