IRISH YOUTHS OPEN STROKE

GARETH SHAW WINS BY FIVE; SCOT
LATIMER DOWN FIELD WITH 305
 
Overnight leader Gareth Shaw (Lurgan), a member of the successful East Tennessee State University team alongside Rhys Davies from Wales and Scotland's Jordan Findlay, won the Irish youths open amateur championship by a five-shot margin at Royal Tara Golf Club today.
Shaw laid the platform for his success with opening rounds of 66 and 67. He kept the door shut on his rivals with two scores of 73 for 279.
Peter Latimer from St Andrews New Golf Club, the only Scot in the field, finished on 305 with scores of 71, 76, 80 and 78.
