RAMSAY JOINT SECOND AFTER LATE SLIP

ON PGA EUROPRO TOUR EVENT

Carnoustie’s Eric Ramsay won himself £3,750 for finishing joint second in the PGA EuroPro Tour’s Heydon Grange International Open in Hertfordshire today – but it could have been more.

Eric birdied the first, fourth, seventh, eighth and ninth to be out in four-under-par 32 – he dropped a shot at the fifth – but he could squeeze out only one more birdie – at the 14^th – on the inward journey and a bogey at the 18^th for a four-under-par 68 and a total of eight-under-par 208 cost him dearly.

A par 4 at the 18^th would have given the Scot second place on his own behind the winner, rookie pro Neil Walker, a former England international from Rotherham, who finished with a 72 for 11-under-par 205.

As it was Ramsay’s eight-under 208 aggregate put him in a tie with England’s Michael Skelton and they split the £7,500 second and third place prizes.

Eric’s earlier rounds were a pair of 70s.

Chris Kelly (Cawder) was the second best Scot in joint fifth place on 211. Chris pocketed £1,300 for rounds of 69, 72 and 70.

Graham Rankin (Drumpellier) won £775 for joint eighth place on 213.

Graeme Brown (Montrose) tied for 16^th place on 215 and picked up £403.

Callum Nicoll (Prestwick) earned £325 for a level par total of 216 and Stephen Gray (Hoyston), the seventh Scot to survive the 36-hole cut, tied for 34th place on 218 and earned £252.

COLIN SPEIRS IN TOP 10 AT HALFWAY

 IN NORTH CAROLINA TOURNAMENT

Colin Speirs from Dunkeld was lying in joint ninth place at the halfway stage of the NGA Hooters Tour’s Statesville Classic at Statesville Country Club in North Carolina.

Colin, who has won $3,233 on the satellite circuit this year, had rounds of 569 and 67 for an eight-under-par tally of 136 – eight shots behind American leader Kenneth Staton who shot a pair of 64s for 16-under-par 128 to go four shots clear of the field.
