SKANDIA JUNIOR BOYS OPEN

BYRNE TOP SCOTS BOY IN SWEDEN

 

James Byrne from Banchory was the best placed of the four Scots in the field of 97 with one round to go in the Skandia Junior Boys’ Open golf tournament at Boras Golf Club, near Gothenburg, Sweden today (Sat).

Byrne  has had rounds of 76 and 71 for a three-over-par total of 147 – six shots off the pace.

James had five birdies – at the first, third, seventh, 14th and 18th, in his second round which also included bogeys at the second, fourth, sixth and ninth.

Another North-east teenager, Lewis Kirton from Newmachar, has had scores of 73 and 76 for 149. Lewis had birdies at the ninth, 16th, 17th and 18th in his second round but had double bogeys at the sixth and 10th.

New Scottish boys’ champion James White (Lundin) has had rounds of 80 and 77 for 157. He started his second round with a double bogey 6 but did later birdie the third, fifth, ninth and 10th

Cameron Gray (West Kilbride) has shot 75 and 82 for 157. Cameron had a triple bogey 8 at the 12th in his second round.

Fredrik Qvicker (Sweden) led the field with 71 and 70 for three-under 141.

Nick McCarthy (Moortown, Leeds) was one shot behind after a pair of 71s.

Luke Joy (Broadstone) had a pair of 73s for 146.

Dale Whitnell (Forrester Park, Essex) improved by 10 shots with a 70 for 150.
