IT'S A YANKEE DOODLE DANDY SCOTS TEAM FOR CRUDEN BAY
American college circuit players Louise Kenney and Heather Macrae will make their first appearances for the full Scotland team in the women's home internationals at Cruden Bay from September 12 to 14.
A third player, Pamela Feggans, will be flying back from an American college to be a member of the eight-strong squad captained for the third year in a row by Elaine Farquharson-Black, a past Curtis Cup player and former Scottish champion.
Miss Feggans (Doon Valley & Florida Southern University) was a member of the Scotland team who were pipped by the narrowest of margins for the home internationals title by England at The Berkshire last year after beating Ireland and Wales.
Miss Kenney (Pitreavie and Iowa State) and Miss Macrae (Dunblane), about to move from McLennan College, Texas to San Diego State University, are both former Scottish girl champions and have played junior international golf.
Louise should have gained her first full cap two years ago but had to decline the invitation as the internationals were then being played in the third week of August, the very week that she had to enrol for the first time at Iowa State.
The Scotland team of eight is made up of five of the six who unaccountably flopped in the recent European women's team championship at Frankfurt, where they finished 10th of 14, plus Kenney, MacRae and Feggans.
The player who did best for the Scots in the European championships, Vikki Laing (Musselburgh), was, unfortunately, unavailable for selection for Cruden Bay. She has decided to compete at the LPGA Qualifying School in Florida next month and also finish off a degree course at the University of California before the end of the year.
Scotland team, with ages, is:
PAMELA FEGGANS (Doon Valley), 21.
CLAIRE HARGAN (Prestonfield), 27.
LOUISE KENNEY (Pitreavie), 20.
LYNN KENNY (Stirling Univ), 23.
ANNE LAING (Vale of Leven), 28.
LESLEY MACKAY (Stirling Univ), 25.
HEATHER MacRAE (Dunblane), 19.
CLARE QUEEN (Drumpellier), 20.
Reserves:
1 Laura Wells (Dumfries & Co), 21.
2 Jenna Wilson (Strathaven), 19.
3 Lyndsey Devenish (Cruden Bay), 21.
4 Kelly Brotherton (Tulliallan), 17.
Captain:
ELAINE FARQUHARSON-BLACK (Deeside)
