CLARE-MARIE CARLTON HAS TO CALL OFF
HER DEBUT IN "HELEN HOLM" TOURNAMENT
Clare-Marie Carlton, the 16-year-old Fereneze junior member who became one of the youngest players to win the Renfrewshire women's county championship on Friday, was unable to make her debut in the Helen Holm Scottish women's open amateur stroke-play championship at Troon Portland today.
Called into the quality field as a replacement by SLGA tournament secretary Gillian Roy, Miss Carlton was advised on Saturday morning to rest over the weekend when one of her ankles swelled up considerably following the strenuous three-day programme of the Renfrewshire championship.
It was considered that the three testing and tiring rounds of the "Helen Holm" over the tough links of Troon Portland and Royal Troon would only aggravate Clare-Marie's condition.
Although she was very disappointed at having to withdraw, Clare-Marie has plenty of time on her side to make many appearances in the event over the years to come.
